The viral infection has cast doubt over Mbappe's short-term availability. Alonso is unsure whether the French star will be fit in time to face Pachuca in their second group match on June 22. Despite his absence, Madrid remains one of the favourites to win the tournament, having qualified as Champions League winners in both 2022 and 2024.
WHAT ALONSO SAID
"We still donât know if heâll be ready for the next match. Heâs been dealing with a serious viral infection. Weâll monitor his progress closely in the coming days," Madrid boss Alonso told reporters after the 1-1 draw.
